Executive Director - Leadership, Innovation and Outreach
Dr. Michael John Roe is the Executive Director of the Leadership, Innovation and Outreach department at the Riverside County Office of Education. Dr. White, County Superintendent, appointed Roe to the role in June, 2019. Michael oversees the division that includes two directors, two coordinators and four support staff within the Student Programs and Services division.
Michael has been an educator for roughly 20 years serving in various capacities including teacher (middle and high); ASB Director; Head Volleyball and Tennis Coach; and Class Advisor. Roe was an Assistant Principal for five years and served as a High School Principal for nine years (the last six at Riverside Poly High School).
Roe is a product of the Inland Empire having attended both Elsinore and Ramona High School. He went on to get his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy and Political Science at California Baptist University. Michael completed his Master's at CBU and earned his Doctorate Degree from the University of La Verne in Organizational Leadership focusing on the The First 90 Days of a Principalship.
In addition to his K-12 experience, Roe has been an adjunct professor for over 15 years teaching in various graduate and doctoral programs at Azusa Pacific University, California Baptist University, Brandman University and Concordia. Inasmuch, Michael has consulted on various organizational leadership tenets nationwide centering on school culture, employee engagement, shared leadership and student voice.
Dr. Roe's public policy work landed him in the White House on numerous occasions working with the Restorative Schools Coalition which seeks to address equity and opportunity gaps for all students.
Michael is married to his wife Jessica and has four children; Elyse, Kennedy, Riley and Mowgli. The family would not be complete without their German Shepherd, Ryder. His work family includes a dynamic team committed to making a difference.
